Inver (Mayo)

Inver sits where the Atlantic meets the wild Mullet Peninsula in northwest Mayo, a small coastal settlement overlooking Blacksod Bay. You'll reach it via the R314 from the N59, about 60 kilometres from Ballina or 80 from Castlebar through Crossmolina and Bangor Erris. It's handy for Belmullet, just 15 kilometres up the R313, and close to Carne Golf Course's championship links. The village has a proper claim to fame - its weather station provided the crucial forecast in 1944 that delayed D-Day by a day, giving the Allies the weather window they needed for Normandy.
