Whiting is a small lakefront city in northwest Indiana, just 20 miles from downtown Chicago via I-80/94. The town sits between Gary's steel mills and the Illinois border, with US Route 12 running along Lake Michigan's shore. Most visitors use I-80/94, which connects directly to Chicago's expressways and continues east to the Indiana Toll Road. The massive BP Whiting Refinery dominates the skyline with its towering distillation columns visible for miles.
