Vrede is a Free State farming dorp near the Mpumalanga and KZN borders, reached via the R34 from Standerton or Harrismith, or the R57 which links up with the N3 at Warden for those coming from Joburg or Durban. It is proper maize and dairy country, with short hops to Memel and Warden for locals, and long-distance travellers doing the Joburg-Durban run passing close by.
