Stamps is a small Arkansas town of 1,400 people in Lafayette County, about 30 miles from the Texas border. US Highway 82 runs east-west through town, connecting to Magnolia and Marshall, Texas, while State Highway 160 provides north-south access. Interstate 30 lies 40 miles north through Hope for longer trips to Little Rock or Dallas. The town sits in pine forest and farmland country. Stamps was Maya Angelou's childhood home, famously depicted in "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."
