Smelthouses sits in Nidderdale along the B6265, reached from Harrogate via the A59 and B6165 through Pateley Bridge. The village has around 40 fast EV charging points nearby and takes its name from 18th-century lead smelting works, with stone remains of the old flue chimney still visible on the hillside.
