Shuttlewood occupies former coalfield territory in north-east Derbyshire, surrounded by villages like Bolsover and Stanfree. Access is via the A632 from Chesterfield or A616 to the M1 (Junctions 29-30). The area has transformed from mining heritage into modern residential development, with over 150 EV charging points serving the district. The village sits within Bolsover's major land reclamation scheme, where old pit sites have become green spaces.
