Road network

Anguilla drives on the left, and visitors need a temporary Anguillian driving permit before getting behind the wheel. Rental agencies can issue one on the spot. The island has no motorways, no multi-lane highways, and no traffic lights. Roads are paved two-lane routes connecting settlements and beaches, with some secondary roads in rougher condition. The main road runs from Blowing Point ferry terminal in the south through The Valley to Island Harbour in the northeast. No drive takes more than about 20 minutes.

Speed limits are 48 km/h in built-up areas and 64 km/h on open roads. The blood alcohol limit is 0.08. Headlights are required at night. The minimum driving age is 18. The emergency number is 911. There are no tolls anywhere on the island. Fuel stations are few, so keep the tank reasonably topped up. Watch for goats on the road, especially on quieter stretches away from the main settlements. The ferry from Blowing Point to Marigot in Saint Martin takes about 20 minutes and is the only surface link to neighboring islands. One detail that catches many visitors off guard: Anguilla has no traffic lights at all, anywhere on the island.
