3About Poulaphouca
Poulaphouca sits in County Wicklow, about 40 kilometres southwest of Dublin, where the River Liffey cuts through the Wicklow Mountains. The town grew around the Poulaphouca Reservoir, one of Ireland's largest artificial lakes, created in the 1940s when the ESB built a hydroelectric dam. Take the N7 to Junction 9, then the R410 through Blessington to reach it from Dublin, or use the N81 from the south. The area draws golfers from across the greater Dublin region to courses like Rathsallagh and Tulfarris. The dam still generates power for roughly 60,000 homes today.
