It's a proper detour spot, not a passing-through town, with Springbok (152 km) and Upington way being your nearest big centres for fuel, shops, or flights. The real drawcard is the old mission church, hand built from clay and lime by French missionaries in the 1880s, still standing among rows of date palms they planted themselves.
