Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn, in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua ranges, is the place to go if you want to see real ostrich farms up close, it's known worldwide as the ostrich capital. Reach it via the N12 from George or the scenic R62 through the wine and fruit farms, with Mossel Bay a quick 106 km run for day trippers. George Airport, 63 km out, is your best bet for flights. Don't skip the Cango Caves just up the road, home to one of the biggest calcite chambers on earth.
