About Great Cumbrae Island

The Isle of Cumbrae lies in the Firth of Clyde, reached by a short ferry crossing from Largs on the A78. The CalMac service runs frequently, carrying cars for the 10-minute journey to this compact island. A single coastal road circles Cumbrae through Millport, offering splendid views across to Arran and the mainland. The island hosts the University Marine Biological Station Millport, one of Britain's oldest marine research centres, established in 1897.
