High Town forms the upper half of Bridgnorth, perched dramatically on red sandstone cliffs above the Severn Valley. The A458 provides the main east-west route through town, whilst the A442 connects north to the M54 and south towards Kidderminster. The famous cliff railway links High Town to Low Town below - a Victorian funicular that's still one of England's steepest. Most striking are the Georgian terraces that end abruptly at the cliff edge, creating an almost continental skyline when viewed from across the valley.
