Hattingspruit is a small coal country town in northern KZN, easy to reach off the R33 and R34, with Dannhauser and Glencoe just a quick hop away and Wasbank about 39 km down the road for those daily errands. If you're coming from further out, the N11 gets you there, passing close to Newcastle Airport, roughly 45 km off. Ladysmith, further south, is your best bet for bigger shops or fuel. Fun bit, the town's name literally means Hattingh's stream in Afrikaans.
