Dipton is a former mining village in County Durham, positioned on the A693 between Consett and Stanley. Most visitors arrive via the A691 from Durham or the A692 from Consett, with good connections to the A1(M) at Chester-le-Street. The village sits amongst rolling Durham hills dotted with other former pit settlements like Tantobie and Mountsett. The former Dipton Colliery once employed over 1,000 miners before closing in 1980.
