The M56 runs just south, connecting directly to Manchester Airport and westward routes, whilst the M60 orbital provides links across Greater Manchester. Most visitors use Junction 7 of the M56 or arrive via local A-roads from nearby towns. The area is famous as the birthplace of conductor Sir John Barbirolli, who led Manchester's Hallé Orchestra for 27 years.
