Arkwright Town lies just off the A619 between Chesterfield and the M1, about 4 miles from Chesterfield centre. This former mining village developed around Arkwright Colliery in the early 1900s and retains much of its original character. The town's red-brick terraced streets, built specifically for miners' families, remain largely intact from the early 20th century.
