Hume is a small farming town in western Missouri, about 80 miles south of Kansas City along State Route 52. Most visitors reach it via US Highway 71 to Butler, then head west on Route 52. The community sits in rolling prairie farmland typical of Bates County, with a continental climate of hot summers and cold winters. Hume operates one of Missouri's smallest post offices, which has served as a community gathering point for decades.
