Hopes lies in East Lothian's countryside between the Lammermuir Hills and the Forth lowlands. Most visitors arrive via country lanes from Gifford (7km) or connect through the B-road network, with the A1 trunk road 15km north for longer journeys. Around 40 EV charging points serve the area. The village sits in a small valley, true to its Scots name meaning 'hollow'.
