Higher Stubbin perches on elevated ground between Rotherham and the Wentworth estate in South Yorkshire's Don Valley. Reach it via the A629 from Rotherham centre or the A6178 from Sheffield through Catcliffe. Long-distance visitors use M1 Junction 33, then the A630 to local roads. The settlement's name derives from its position atop an ancient stubble field, with "higher" distinguishing it from neighbouring Low Stubbin.
