Hastings is Barry County's seat, located about 25 miles southwest of Grand Rapids via Highway M-37. The city sits in Michigan's farm country along the Thornapple River, surrounded by lakes and rolling hills. M-37 serves as the main north-south route, connecting to Interstate 94 and US-131 for longer trips, while M-179 runs east-west through the county. The Barry County Fair has run continuously since 1851, making it one of Michigan's oldest.
