Grimethorpe lies in South Yorkshire's former mining heartland, just outside Barnsley. Access is straightforward via Junction 38 of the M1, then local roads through Brierley. The village sits amongst gently rolling coalfield terrain, well-connected to surrounding communities like Cudworth and Shafton. Grimethorpe Colliery Band achieved worldwide fame through the film "Brassed Off" and still performs today, decades after the pit closed.
