Greensburg, KS

Greensburg sits along US Highway 54 in south-central Kansas, about 109 miles west of Wichita. This small plains community of 722 people became famous for rebuilding as America's first LEED Platinum city after an EF5 tornado destroyed 95 percent of the town in 2007. The surrounding prairie landscape features wheat fields and cattle ranches under big skies, with strong winds that are both a challenge and a renewable energy resource.
