Gettysburg is a small agricultural town in north-central South Dakota, about 90 miles from Bismarck and 120 miles northwest of Aberdeen. US Highway 212 runs east-west through town, while Highway 83 provides the main north-south route. Most out-of-town visitors arrive via Highway 83 from Bismarck or Pierre. The red brick courthouse from 1910 dominates the town square and remains the community's most recognizable landmark.
