Galmoy is a small County Kilkenny village on the R693, sitting between Urlingford and Johnstown about 20 kilometres northeast of Kilkenny city. Most visitors come via the N8 from Dublin or Cork, turning west at Johnstown onto the R693. The village serves as a handy connection between Urlingford and the N76 toward Callan, with smaller roads leading through farmland to Freshford and neighbouring communities. The name comes from "Gaill Maigh," meaning "plain of the foreigners," a nod to the Norman settlers who made their mark here during medieval times.
