Galmisdale

Scotland

Scotland

Galmisdale occupies a dramatic spot on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula's western edge, where Highland moorland meets the Atlantic's full force. Getting there means committing to the A861 from Fort William, then the increasingly narrow B8007 through some of Scotland's most remote terrain. The final approach involves proper single-track roads with passing places, so allow plenty of time and check your fuel before the last stretch past Kilchoan. The tiny harbor still shelters the occasional fishing boat in what remains one of mainland Britain's most isolated coastal settlements.
