Galashiels

Galashiels serves as the unofficial capital of the Scottish Borders, positioned on the A7 between Edinburgh and the English border. The reopened Borders Railway connects directly to Edinburgh Waverley, whilst the A72 provides east-west links across the region. With over 20 EV charging points and its strategic location in the Gala Water valley, it's become a natural base for exploring the wider Borders. The 17th-century Mercat Cross still displays the town motto "Sour Plums," commemorating English raiders who once pinched unripe fruit from local gardens.
