Erath is a small farming town in Louisiana's Vermilion Parish, about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette via Highway 14. The community of 1,900 sits among sugar cane and rice fields in the heart of Acadiana. Highway 14 connects to Interstate 10 for longer trips, while local routes serve neighboring agricultural areas and coastal marshes. The town is known as the birthplace of railroad developer C.C. Duson.
