Egremont is a former mining town in west Cumbria, positioned between the Lakes and the coast along the River Ehen. The A595 provides the main north-south connection through west Cumbria, whilst the A5086 links eastward to central Lakeland via Cockermouth. The town hosts the annual Crab Fair each September, featuring the World Gurning Championship where competitors pull faces through horse collars in a tradition dating to 1267.
