East Mains forms part of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, easily reached via the A726 and M74 junction. The area sits within Scotland's first new town, built from 1947 to house Glasgow's overspill population. Local routes include the A749 from Hamilton and B764 from surrounding districts, whilst long-distance traffic uses the M74 corridor. The district retains its original 1940s modernist housing blocks, representing pioneering post-war urban planning.
