Downpatrick, the county town of Down, sits 35 kilometers south of Belfast on the Lecale peninsula, reached via the A7 in about 30 minutes. This is where Saint Patrick is buried, marked by a simple stone slab in Down Cathedral bearing "Patric" in Latin and Irish script. The Saint Patrick Centre tells his story, while the heritage railway runs seasonal steam trains. It's a proper pilgrimage site that draws visitors from Belfast and beyond, with the Quoile river flowing past and the Mourne Mountains rising to the south. EV charging is better sorted in Belfast or along the A1.
