Denton is a college town about 40 miles northwest of Dallas, home to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. I-35E runs north-south through the city, connecting to Dallas and continuing toward Oklahoma, while US-380 provides the main east-west route. The historic courthouse square downtown, built in 1896, remains the heart of the city.
