Criccieth

Wales

Criccieth perches on Cardigan Bay's coast, its medieval castle crowning a rocky headland between two beaches. The A497 coastal road runs straight through town, connecting to Porthmadog (8km east) and the main A487 trunk route. Day-trippers arrive from across Gwynedd, whilst longer journeys typically use the A55 then A487 south from Caernarfon. The castle uniquely combines original Welsh stonework with later English additions under Edward I.
