Cow Creek is a tiny farming town in central South Dakota with under 70 people, reached via US Highway 83 about 30 miles north of Pierre. Most visitors drive up from the state capital, while locals make regular trips south for services. The community sits in rolling prairie country with a continental climate of hot summers and snowy winters. The town got its name from early settlers who found cattle gathered along the local creek.
