Cole End is a small Essex settlement between Saffron Walden and Stansted Airport, reached via the A1301 from M11 junctions 8 or 9. The area serves commuters to London and Cambridge whilst maintaining its rural character. The name derives from medieval charcoal burning, with "cole" meaning charcoal in old English.
