Coalisland sits four miles from Lough Neagh in County Tyrone, serving as a handy base for exploring the area's industrial heritage. The A45 connects you straight to the M1 system via Dungannon, making it an easy 65-kilometer run from Belfast or 24 kilometers to Portadown. Coal mining built this town from the 17th century, with the old Coalisland Canal from 1787 still traceable as it once carried coal to the lough. The Cornmill Heritage Centre houses a restored 18th-century corn mill with its original waterwheel intact, giving you a proper look at how things worked back then.
