Clonlara sits along the Shannon in County Clare, just 12 kilometers northeast of Limerick city where the N18 crosses the river. This makes it a handy stop for drivers heading between Limerick and Galway or continuing north to the Burren. You can reach it in about 15 minutes from Limerick via the R463 through Castletroy, or take the N18 for longer journeys. The village sits at a major Shannon crossing point between Munster and Connacht. Worth knowing that Clonlara GAA, founded in 1884, is one of Ireland's oldest hurling clubs and still plays at county level.
