Cil lies along the A483 in mid-Wales, roughly halfway between Welshpool and Newtown in the Severn Valley. The main trunk road provides direct access, with connections to England via Welshpool or central Wales through Newtown. Around 17 fast EV chargers serve the area. The name means "retreat" in Welsh, referring to its sheltered position where drovers once rested cattle heading to English markets.
