Carlow

Carlow sits on the River Barrow about 84 kilometres from Dublin, with the M9 motorway getting you there in roughly an hour. The town serves as county seat and home to South East Technological University, with a compact centre along Tullow Street and Dublin Street. The 13th-century castle ruins overlook the river, while the Barrow Way follows the old towpath through town. Just 3 kilometres east, Browne's Hill Dolmen features the largest capstone in Europe, a massive 100-150 tonne granite slab that's been balanced there since around 4000 BC.
