Golden sits at the meeting of the Kicking Horse and Columbia rivers, right on the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Vancouver, with Highway 95 branching south through the Columbia Valley. Most drivers passing through are headed somewhere else, Banff's 138 km east and Invermere or Windermere are around 120 km south, so this is very much a stopover town rather than a quick errand run. Watch for winter conditions through the Kicking Horse Canyon, and top up your EV in town if you need it before tackling the passes. Worth a stop for the Golden Skybridge, home to the highest suspension bridges in Canada.
