Bolton, Cumbria

Bolton is a small Eden Valley village just off the A66 trans-Pennine route, perfectly placed for exploring eastern Cumbria's quieter countryside. The A66 provides quick access to Penrith or the Yorkshire Dales, whilst local roads connect surrounding villages like Appleby-in-Westmorland. The area enjoys milder weather than the high fells, though winter conditions can affect the Stainmore Pass crossing. St. Michael's Church houses exceptional 12th-century wall paintings depicting St. Nicholas, remarkably intact medieval artwork that survived the Reformation.
