Boardmills is a small County Down village positioned between Belfast and the South Down countryside, just off the A1 corridor. The settlement sits amid rolling farmland typical of the Lagan Valley, with easy access to Lisburn's amenities and Belfast's employment centres. The village's name derives from the timber mills that once processed logs floated down the local streams.
