Blakelaw occupies Newcastle's northwestern suburbs, easily reached via the A696 Jedburgh Road which runs straight into the city centre 4km away. The A1 motorway lies 10 minutes south through Kenton for longer journeys to Edinburgh or London, whilst the A19 provides access to Sunderland and Teesside. Newcastle Airport sits 12km northwest along the A696. The 1960s Blakelaw Centre remains the area's focal point with its distinctive modernist shopping precinct.
