Blackshiels lies on the A68 between Edinburgh and the English border, about 25 kilometers southeast of the capital. Popular routes include the half-hour drive north to Edinburgh and longer journeys south into England via this main trunk road. The area has over 100 EV charging points nearby. The village gets its name from the dark slate that once roofed the local stone houses.
