Belderrig (Béal Deirg)

Belderrig perches on Mayo's wild Atlantic coast where cliffs meet open moorland. Take the N59 west from Ballina, then follow the R314 coastal road for the final stretch, about 25 kilometers through stone-walled countryside. From Dublin, it's a good 260-kilometer drive via Castlebar and Ballina. The R314 itself is one of Ireland's finest coastal drives, winding between Killala and Ballycastle along the shoreline. The big draw here is the nearby Céide Fields, where 5,000-year-old stone walls from the world's oldest known field systems still lie preserved beneath the bog.
