Ballycotton is a fishing village on County Cork's southern coast, perched on cliffs above the Celtic Sea with grand views across the bay to its famous lighthouse on a rocky island offshore. Most visitors drive the N25 from Cork city then take the R629 south through Castlemartyr, about 40 kilometers total, passing the Jameson Distillery at Midleton along the way. The village sits at road's end around a small harbor where colorful fishing boats work between stone piers, and you can often buy fresh crab and lobster straight from the boats when they return in late afternoon.
