Ballingeary (Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh)

Ballingeary sits in west Cork's Gaeltacht region, tucked into a valley where Irish is still the daily language. The village connects via the R584, reached from Cork city through Macroom then 23 kilometers southwest on winding country roads. It's the heart of the Irish-speaking cultural circuit with Coolea and Ballyvourney nearby, and makes a good base for exploring towards Glengarriff and the Ring of Beara. The village has run one of Ireland's oldest Irish language summer schools since 1904, bringing students here every year.
