Badanloch lies deep in Sutherland's Flow Country, reached via the single-track A897 from Helmsdale or through Forsinard from the north coast. The nearest proper facilities are at Kinbrace, 7km south, whilst Thurso sits about an hour's drive away. This is serious Highland country with challenging winter conditions and virtually no EV charging, so plan accordingly. The name means "grove by the loch" in Gaelic, after a rare stand of trees in this vast, treeless moorland.
