Appledore perches at the Torridge estuary mouth, accessible via the A39 through Bideford. This ancient fishing village connects by causeway that floods at high tide. Most arrive from Barnstaple (8 miles) or Bideford (4 miles), though long-distance visitors use the M5 to A39 route. The old lifeboat house still launches rescues into the notorious Bideford Bar.
