Aghaboe

Ireland

Ireland

Aghaboe lies 10 kilometers southwest of Abbeyleix along the R430 in County Laois. Most visitors take the M7 from Dublin, about 90 minutes away, or approach from Cork via the M8. The village centers around the ruins of a 6th-century monastery founded by Saint Canice, who also lent his name to Kilkenny Cathedral. The ancient round tower still stands among the weathered stone walls, marking this as one of Ireland's earliest Christian settlements and an important medieval pilgrimage site.
